✨ Each learning outcome and lesson in Immerse is associated with ~15 minutes of asynchronous practice activities to help you prepare for lessons and review afterwards. Some have been created by our expert language Guides and others are powered by AI.
How to access Practice Activities
There are different ways to get to the study spaces depending on your intention:
Unspecified Practice
Log in to Immerse and enter your Homeroom.
On the dashboard, select the Learning Path tab
On the unit view, select a unit (language function) and click view
Select a learning outcome and click view
Under the Practice on your own section click Start to be taken to the activities
Booked Class Practice
Log in to Immerse and enter your Homeroom.
On the Home tab head to the My Upcoming Lessons section to view your booked classes.
Find the booked class you want to practice for, hover over it, and click view.
Under the Practice on your own section click Start to be taken to the activities.
Practice Related to an Upcoming Lesson on the Schedule
Log in to Immerse and enter your Homeroom.
On the dashboard, select the Learning Path tab.
Select Schedule view.
Select a date to view available lessons at your level.
Once you've found a lesson that interests you, click View Details.
Under the Practice on your own section click Start to be taken to the activities.
How to Use the Activities
Vocabulary (Guide-authored)
Flashcards
Flashcards contain words and phrases that you may see and hear as part of the associated lesson for recognition practice.
Reveal Button - select this button to reveal the definition, or associated image, of the vocabulary word or phrase
Mark as Known - After learning the new word or phrase, select the thumbs up to remove it from your list and mark it as known
Mark as Unknown - if you still need to practice a word or phrase, select the thumbs down and it will be shuffled into the rest of the words and phrases to practice again
Vocabulary Bank - here you can see what words or phrases you’ve seen so far along with if you’ve marked them as known or unknown.
Blue - known words
Red - unknown words. These will turn blue once you mark them as known after more studying.
Listen to Example - select the speaker button to hear how the word or phrase is spoken in your Language Focus
Progress Bar - as you mark words or phrases as known, you will make progress on this activity. Mark all as known to finish.
Fill-in-the-Blank
This activity contains phrases with a word missing and three responses to choose from for quizzing yourself on new words and phrases associated with the lesson.
Answer options - select one of the three options to see if you get the Fill in the Blank phrase correct or incorrect
Progress Bar - as you answer each Fill in the Blank phrase, you will make progress on this activity. Get through all phrases to finish.
Pronunciation (Guide-authored)
This activity presents you with a set of words or phrases that you can try to practice pronouncing. After saying each word or phrase, you will be shown how good your pronunciation was.
Color Scale Quality Indicator
Red - Poor pronunciation, try again!
Yellow - Weak pronunciation but closer, needs work!
Yellow Green - Good Pronunciation, needs some fine tuning!
Green - Great Pronunciation, nailed it!
Pronunciation Score - Grading/Rating Parameters
Accuracy
Measures how closely your speech matches that of a native speaker. Calculated by combining the accuracy of each sound in the words you spoke.
Completeness
Measures how many of the words you pronounced compared to the reference text.
Fluency
Measures how naturally your speech flows, based on how closely it matches a native speaker’s pauses between words.
Feature Options:
Record your voice - select the record button to record yourself saying the pronunciation word or phrase.
Listen to Example - Select the speaker button to hear how the word or phrase is spoken in your Language Focus
Pronunciation feedback - after recording your voice, you will see a visual representation of how you did for each word.
Listen to your recording - select this button to hear back your voice recording
Try again - select the redo button to try the pronunciation word or phrase again
Next Word or Phrase - select the arrow button to move on to the next word or phrase
Progress Bar - as you record yourself for each word or phrase you will make progress on this activity. Get through all of them to finish.
Conversations (AI-authored)
Guided
If you are a level 2-5 learner, this AI powered activity will allow members to have unique conversations with our Immerse avatars that are focused on specific topics and aligned with the learning outcome. This will be a great way to put your new words and phrases to the test. After finishing the conversation, you will be presented with a score to help you understand how well you did and how you can improve.
Scripted
If you are a level 1 learner, this scripted conversation is a great way to start hearing the new language you are learning in a conversational setting while also being given the opportunity to speak out your parts of the conversation.
Feature Options:
Record Your Voice - Select the record button to record your response to the AI powered avatar.
Hints - select the hint button to get hints on how to respond.
Keyboard - select the keyboard button to type your response if you are unable to record your voice
Replay Message - select the speaker button to either hear the avatar’s message again or to hear your voice recording on your responses
Translate Message - select the translate button to see the message translated into your display language
Learning Outcome - Here you can see the learning outcome goal of the particular convocation you are having
Progress Bar - as you respond to the avatar, you will make progress on this activity. Get through ten messages to finish.
Conversation score - after completing the conversation, you will be given a rating with additional details. Get 4 or more stars to make progress on your Learning Path.
