Immerse's Learning Model

Lessons in Immerse are aligned with communicative language teaching practices. The practices that inform our learning model are:

  • Communicative Language Teaching

    • Role-plays

    • Interviews

    • Group work

    • Information gap

    • Opinion sharing

  • Task-Based Teaching

    • There is a focus on pragmatic meaning.

    • Learners choose the linguistic resources needed to complete the task.

  • Emergent Language

    • Emergent language is language that "comes up," often unpredictably, in interaction between the learners, and/or the teacher and the learners.

Immerse Levels

When Members register with Immerse, they take a proficiency placement test to determine which level best suits their fluency level. This test automatically assigns members to the level they receive, but this can be changed manually at any time.

We currently offer Levels 1-4 for Spanish and French, and Levels 1-5 for English. Members have the freedom to take classes at any level.

The Learning Opportunities in Immerse

Lessons

  • Lessons are reflected on the Web App schedule and in VR.

  • Lessons are led by Immerse teachers, who are called Guides, and are 40 minutes long.

  • Members must book a lesson before a class starts to reserve their place, but if there are open seats members can also join a lesson within the first 5 minutes without booking beforehand.

  • Lessons have a maximum capacity of 12 Members.

  • Members receive a 30-minute reminder e-mail before class asking them to cancel if they do not plan to attend.

  • The schedule is available 2 weeks in advance.

Lessons have specific learning objectives, and they help you develop fluency by using the language in relevant contexts. Click here to learn more about Lessons.

Connect Events

  • You do NOT need to book Events - just join anytime!

  • Events are live and led by Immerse teachers, who are called Guides.

  • Events provide more open-ended conversation opportunities than Classes.

  • Events are fun and take place in many different locations.

Our staff host events throughout the day across a multitude of Immerse locations.

Practice Activities

Each learning outcome and lesson in Immerse is associated with ~15 minutes of asynchronous practice activities to help you prepare for lessons and review afterwards. Some have been created by our expert language Guides and others are powered by AI.

Join this public area to meet new people from across ALL Language Programs and play language learning games! We are always adding new features and exciting games to this space.

Community Channels

We wish to invite all Immerse members to join us on our Community Facebook page. We also have a less moderated Discord channel where they can interact with other members and Immerse guides. Our guides and hosts regularly post messages and special events such as gatherings, and you can find a training partner by posting on our pages.
